江戸小噺笑い広げ鯛 (Edo Kobanashi Warai Hirogetai)

Placement Description: This is a volunteer organization that gives free performances of rakugo, around the local Mitaka area. Check out their website here.

Location: react-text: 627 This organization doesn't have a fixed location. Interns might have to go to a different location each time they report for duty.

Level of Japanese Required: Intermediate Japanese

Typical Day: Not only do the interns participate in the rakugo performances, they also prepare the room beforehand, and also clean up afterwards. After each performance, the interns also discuss with their supervisor and colleagues about who they did, and how they can improve for next time!

Schedule: Interns usually spend one afternoon a week with this organization, for about two hours each time.

What Former Interns Say:"The most rewarding aspect of this internship is seeing people engage through laughter. It is super fun but unless you can properly manage your schedule and dedicate yourself to going on an almost every day basis for about 1 1/2 hours+ travel time, it is hard to finish the 25 hours."

-Jennifer Meneses, Fall 2017

Former Intern's End of Semester Presentation: At the end of the Fall semester students present about their Community Engagement experience in Japanese! Watch below to hear about Edo Kobanashi Warai Hirogetai!
