ぐっどういる境南ディサービスセンター (Day Service Center)

Placement Description: This Center is a non-residential retirement home for the elderly. Check out their website here.

Location:

Level of Japanese Required: Intermediate Japanese

Typical Day: Interns are tasked with keeping the Center's residents company and engaged in conversation. They also help staff run activities, serve tea and treats and clean up.

Schedule: Interns usually spend one afternoon a week at the Center, for about 3 hours.

What Former Interns Say:"Just go up to any of the old people and start asking random questions. Don't be afraid because they all love to talk even if they don't seem like it at first. Talking to the elderly, i got to learn a lot about older perspectives of lots of important topics in the world. I also got to learn how to listen to their Japanese, since old people's Japanese is often very hard to understand.

-Carissa Lee, Fall 2017

Former Intern's End of Semester Presentation: At the end of the Fall semester students present about their Community Engagement experience in Japanese! Watch below to hear about the Day Service Center!
